About Us

Our Mission:

Our mission is for 100% of our students to be prepared for the opportunity to attend the high school of their choice.

Our Vision:

As members of the Paul L. Dunbar School family, we believe that all of our students and staff can grow, learn, and succeed. It is our collective responsibility to provide a joyful and safe environment that fosters academic excellence, embraces diversity and cultivates social emotional development. We believe that all staff, students, families and community members share in the responsibility to support each other as members of the Dunbar family.

Our Priorities:

INSTRUCTION:

We prepare our students for the demands of the 21st century with standards-aligned instruction on a daily basis. We have high expectations for the academic potential of all students while recognizing that in order to provide educational equity, each student may need supports unique to them. Our instruction prioritizes collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity.

GROWTH:

We celebrate student and staff growth everywhere we find it. We believe that all students can grow and learn. As staff, we prioritize reflection, collaboration and professional growth as a way to continually improve our practice to better support our students. We foster an environment where it is safe to learn from mistakes.

JOY:

Paul L. Dunbar School is a joyful and safe place for students and staff.  It is a school that students and staff are excited to attend each day because they feel physically and emotionally safe, respected as people, and valued as members of our school community. As a school, we prioritize the well-being of all members of our school community.

COMMUNITY:

All stakeholders recognize that in order for our students to achieve their goals, everyone must work together. We are “One Band, One Sound”. We prioritize collaboration and engagement with all members of our school community including staff, students, families, community members, school district staff, and community organizations.
